Behind the Song: – Our Father – Hillsong Worship
Hannah Hobbs talks about the song ‘Our Father’ from the Hillsong Worship album ‘No Other Name’.
This song is inspired by the Lord’s Prayer. In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus teaches us how to pray — when we sing this song, we’re actually reminding ourselves to pray like Jesus instructed us!
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
I love that we can gather in church together to sing in unity, to declare our adoration for our God. There’s plenty of great songs that are reflections of God’s love for us; expressions of our human experience of Him. But there’s nothing quite like singing the truth of His Word, and lifting our voices with melodies of Scripture!
Easter is a time when people around the world are open to the message of Christ, and with so many visitors coming to our church services, I love that we can sing about ‘Our Father’. Whatever preconceptions people might have about God, we get to help shape a picture for them of who He truly is. Some people might not know the true meaning of the Easter story, and we get the privilege of sharing the Good News — that the Cross actually signifies God’s love, forgiveness, and grace towards us.
When we sing this song, we get the opportunity to show people that God is not distant, not angry, not removed, but He is near and loving and personal! He is an intimate God, He is our Father.
Lyrics: Hillsong Worship //Our Father
The words of Christ
Passed down through generations
The Son of God teaching us to pray
Echoed words
Father have Your will Your way in me
Completely
We wholly trust
You’re faithful in provision
Amazing grace mercy for our sins
May we forgive
The way that You’ve forgiven us oh Lord
So we can sing
Our Father
Hallowed be Your Name
Forever our God be exalted
Your kingdom come and in us
Let Your will be done
Our Father
Lead us from the valley of temptation
Deliver us from the evil one
Lord You reign and here we stand
Victorious in Your Name
Together we pray
Our Father
Hallowed be Your Name
Forever our God be exalted
Your kingdom come and in us
Let Your will be done
Our Father
Yours is the kingdom and power and glory
God of authority ancient of days
Yours is the wisdom and honour
Forever and always
And always
Yours is the kingdom and power and glory
God of authority ancient of days
Yours is the wisdom and honour
Forever and always
We pray
Our Father
Hallowed be Your Name
Forever our God be exalted
Your kingdom come and in us
Let Your will be done
Our Father
Our Father
Hallowed be Your Name
Forever our God be exalted
Your kingdom come and in us
Let Your will be done
Our Father
We pray
Our Father
We pray
Our Father
