Tuesday 23 July 2019 Saint Bridget of Sweden, Patroness of Europe – Feast  Liturgical Colour: White.

Entrance Antiphon: Cf. Ps 51:10

I am like a growing olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the mercy of God, for ever and ever.

or:

I despised the kingdom of the world and all worldly finery for love of my Lord, Jesus Christ, whom I have seen, whom I have loved, in whom I have believed, in whom has been my delight.

Collect:

O God, who guided Saint Bridget of Sweden along different paths of life and wondrously taught her the wisdom of the Cross as she contemplated the Passion of your Son, grant us, we pray, that, walk ing worthily in our vocation, we may seek you in all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

First Reading: Galatians 2:19-20

I live now with the life of Christ who lives in me

Through the Law I am dead to the Law, so that now I can live with God. I have been crucified with Christ, and I live now not with my own life but with the life of Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in this body I live in faith: faith in the Son of God who loved me and who sacrificed himself for my sake.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 33(34):2-11

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise always on my lips;
in the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
The humble shall hear and be glad.

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Glorify the Lord with me.
Together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord and he answered me;
from all my terrors he set me free.

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Look towards him and be radiant;
let your faces not be abashed.
This poor man called, the Lord heard him
and rescued him from all his distress.

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

The angel of the Lord is encamped
around those who revere him, to rescue them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
He is happy who seeks refuge in him.

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Revere the Lord, you his saints.
They lack nothing, those who revere him.
Strong lions suffer want and go hungry
but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.

I will bless the Lord at all times.
or Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Gospel Acclamation: John 15:9,5

Alleluia, alleluia!
Remain in my love, says the Lord; whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty.
Alleluia!

Gospel: John 15:1-8

I am the vine, you are the branches

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that bears no fruit he cuts away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes to make it bear even more. You are pruned already, by means of the word that I have spoken to you. Make your home in me, as I make mine in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself, but must remain part of the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, with me in him, bears fruit in plenty; for cut off from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is like a branch that has been thrown away – he withers; these branches are collectedand thrown on the fire, and they are burnt. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask what you will and you shall get it. It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit, and then you will be my disciples.’

Prayer over the Offerings:

We bring the offerings of our devotion to be consecrated by you, O Lord, in commemoration of blessed N., for by the consolation you give us in this life you show that we should not lose hope of what is promised for eternity. Through Christ our Lord.

Communion Antiphon: Ps 44:2

My heart overflows with noble words. To the king I address the song I have made.

or: Luke 10:42

One thing is necessary: she has chosen the better part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Prayer after Communion:

Renewed, O Lord, at the wellsprings of salvation, we humbly entreat you that through the intercession of blessed N., holding more closely day by day to Christ, we may merit to be co-heirs in his Kingdom of grace. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
