Alton Day of Renewal – 2019 Programme – The Power of Prayer

Nov 23 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Adore Alton Days of Renewal

Programme for 2019 Theme: “The Power of Prayer”

Renewal and Mission

The Church exists to evangelise. “The presentation of the Gospel message is not an optional contribution for the Church.” –

Rt. Rev. Richard Moth, Bishop of Arundel and Brighton Diocese, will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of Alton Day of Renewal (ADoRE) one of the longest continually running retreat days of its type in he country. He will speak on “Praying the Scripture with Lectio Divina”, explaining how listening to and meditating on God’s word can empower our prayer and strengthen our faith. This topic will be the last in the 2019 ADoRE programme, which has focussed on the Power of Prayer, and neatly bridges to next year’s theme, which is “The God who speaks – are we listening?” The 2020 programme, following the theme from the Bishops’ Conference, encourages us to listen to God speaking to us through His word, just as Mary did.
Alton Day of Renewal, founded in 1975, is a monthly mini-retreat Saturday open to anyone free of charge and without booking. As well as an inspiring  guest speaker each month, the day includes Rosary, Mass, Adoration, shared lunch, praise and worship, and healing ministry.

Praying to make a difference in the world

Key Scripture:

Matthew 21:22 Jesus said “whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Background:

In the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles we read of Jesus and his followers transforming lives with signs and wonders, healings and miracles. The Charismatic Renewal movement is reminding the Church that God still wants to empower His people to transform lives and change society. This year’s programme will show us how to renew our prayer lives through the power of the Holy Spirit, so that we can be more effective ambassadors of God’s Kingdom, making a real difference in people’s lives and the world around us.

Overview:

Our 2019 programme will encourage us to deepen our prayer lives, making fuller use of the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit and learning to pray with greater confidence, enabling God’s power to flow through us to achieve His purposes.

Speakers

As usual we will have a range of inspiring speakers – see the schedule for further details.
