TRIBUTE TO THOSE, WHO MADE OUR DREAM ABOUT YOUTH CLUB’s ROOM POSSIBLE
And the young Polish, very dedicated people, who sacrificed their time and talents to do it for free
On Monday 9TH December, at 10am Mass in St Swithun’s church – Mass for Arthur Tobin – 12/10/1923 – 25/01/2018 (he left us £10.000 legacy)
Arthur Tobin was a Southsea lad heart and soul. He attended St Swithun’s Primary School, the beginning of a long association with St Swithun’s church. His early education, both at school and at home, emphasized service before self, and, when war broke out, he joined up as a young pilot just as soon as he could.
His belief that community spirit was nurtured by love of adventure and the outdoors. He continued to fly, sail his beloved boat ‘Alert’ and ride his motorbike throughout his life.
Arthur was a pillar of the commercial community, he took over Cynthia’s, the lingerie shop his mother opened on Elm Grove, and ran it almost single-handedly until he was in his 70s. He was an avid collector, and most of his collections can be seen in the Portsmouth Museum.
Arthur was always interested in the activities of St Swithun’s, how delighted he would have been to know that his donation would mean that local young people have somewhere to gather together.
Dearest Friends, Parishioners and Benefactors with a huge joy I would like to tell You, that our Dear Parishioner who passed away a few weeks ago – + ARTHUR TOBIN RIP left for us a huge gift in his legacy: £10.000, with a dedication to be spend for our pastoral work with children and young people. As a Parish Priest, I would like to thank him in the name of all of us, who do feel, that this parish, this Catholic Church in Southsea is a part of their family, because this is what Dear Arthur had in his heart. We can thank him in the best way, as the Holy Church can – through the next 25 years we will offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist in the intention of the repose of the soul, on the day of his death.
This is a message for all of us, please look at your last will, and consider your gift, legacy for the church, because this is one of the ways that we can express our thanks for the blessings of our faith, as well as serve your children and grandchildren and help the Church in the future. It does make a huge difference, because every gift left to the Catholic Church – no matter how large or small – can have a significant impact. Everything about the way how to do it, and how much it can help us, we can find here: http://www.yourcatholiclegacy.org.uk
