St Swithun’s Catholic Primary School has vacancies for Foundation Governors on the governing body. Foundation Governors are appointed by the Bishop specifically to preserve and develop the Catholic ethos of the school and must be practising Catholics. The governors of a Catholic school work as a team, in close co-operation with the headteacher and all the staff. Foundation governors share the responsibilities of all governors:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
It is important that each governing body has a good mix of skills, knowledge and experience; St Swithun’s would benefit from a governor with financial skills and experience, but please do not be deterred from expressing an interest if your skills lie elsewhere. No previous experience of being a governor is necessary as training is available.
The role includes attending six full governor meetings per year and serving on at least one committee, either Resources or Curriculum and Standards. You will also be encouraged to attend free training sessions.
If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please contact Brother Ben, Chair of Governors, or Andrew Olive, headteacher, via the school – 02392829339 or firstname.lastname@example.org
