Called and Gifted is coming to our parish soon. This is a process that has been running for 3 years around the diocese. It is about helping you discover the particular ways that God wants you to love and serve other people, in your everyday life. We have each been given particular gifts or charisms when we were baptised and Called and Gifted helps you discover your own special gifts. You can read much more on the diocese website www.portsmouthdiocese.org.uk/calledandgifted
We will start the process on Saturday 12th May 10.00am – 5.30pm in St Swithun’s parish hall, when members of the Called and Gifted team will come to talk and lead discussion. They will also bring a questionnaire that helps you start to work out what your gifts might be. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity to help us develop ourselves as active Catholics, looking outwards, and I am looking forward to attending the day myself.
The first stage is a teaching day. It explains the Church’s teaching on the role of the laity and the parish in the mission of the Church to the world. It discusses the critical role of charisms in our life and service of others, and the signs and characteristics of 23 common charisms. This usually takes place on a Saturday, between about 9am and 4.30pm in a parish.
The second stage is a private discernment Conversation with a trained member of the team, which will help you recognise patterns in your life that might indicate the presence of a charism.
The third stage is meeting three times in a small discernment group, following a process to look in detail at using one charism in your everyday life. Usually there about 5 people in the group. All parishioners will then meet together at the end, with their parish priest and perhaps members of a Parish Council or Evangelisation Strategy Team, to share experiences and confirmed charisms, and look at how the community can support each person in using their charisms in their everyday life as well as for the mission of the Church.
All information is treated in confidence. We comply with the Data Protection Act and no information will be passed to third parties without prior permission. By completing this form you agree that the above information can be entered in the Parish and/or Diocesan records. It will be used only to help with personal and pastoral care and the appropriate administration of the Parish and Diocese.
